In 1969, founding Pastor T. R. Sylvester was filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit and was baptized in Jesus name. Upon receiving the Holy Spirit, he began to prepare and equip himself for the call that God had placed upon his life. Pastor Sylvester came to God under the ministry of Rev. John R. Cupit, pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church of New Orleans. Over the next five years, Pastor Sylvester became involved in numerous ministries at the First United Pentecostal Church of New Orleans. During this time, he gained hands on experience and knowledge of organizing and operating a church.
In 1974, Pastor Sylvester started a Home Missions church in St. Bernard, Louisiana. Many opposed his desire to build in an area people thought was not capable of maintaining a church. Despite the opposition, the call of God made a way for the work God had placed in his heart. From the beginning, Pastor Sylvester knew that a great church could be built in St. Bernard. In 1976, he was ordained by the Louisiana District of the United Pentecostal Church International. For more than twenty-eight years he has served as pastor and has seen numerous miracles and hundreds of lives changed by the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In a place many thought a church would or could not survive, God has shown His faithfulness and blessings over the years.
